Listen to Learn

Listen to Learn makes Bible teaching available to African pastors who long to learn but cannot hope to go to Bible School. It loads great Bible teaching – and the audio scriptures themselves – on pocket-sized mp3 players, to make the teaching conveniently available; it translates into an assortment of local languages to make it accessible; and it locates funding partners around the world to make it affordable.

Learning through listening has an ancient lineage, and for many societies around the world it is still their default learning mode. Listen to Learn has married that audio medium to digital technologies that are recently and rapidly coming of age, making a tool that blends the best of the old and the new. It is a tool to teach the Word to those whose calling is to teach others, but for whom traditional teaching methods are inaccessible or unaffordable.  Paul encouraged us, “The things you have heard me say entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others,” and the church has been doing that for centuries. Our strategies, while very twenty-first century, stand in that honoured tradition.

A pastor in Sudan said to his fellow pastors and to us, “Thank God there are brothers in Canada who understand that it is not only bread we hunger after, but also the Word of God.” Our task is to feed the hungry. We just happen to use high-tech tools to do it.
